Overcharged for carpet water damage I have a small 9x8 room that had water seep into about 1/3 of the carpet due to a water heater leak. It has been 3 days and the person tells me it is still not dry and if he removes his equipment now, it will cause mold to build up in the walls. I do not believe him and his charges are astronomical. Since I have not paid him yet, I would like some info as to what I can do. He never gave me a written estimate for the work. I did sign a paper which only listed the equipment being used and a ballpark figure as to the cost. |

The carpet should have all water pulled out with a professional machine and the same done to the padding as well. ( The padding can also be removed and dried at another location or just replaced once the job is done ). Then an (air mover), a large blower is placed between the carpet and the flooring to dry out the carpet. Depending on the situation, the thickness of the carpet, the humidity...it can take any where from 24 hours to several days. I realize this answer comes a bit late for you but I hope that it helps if you have this problem in the future.
