Answer 1/1 - Submitted 1/5/2011
We purchase water damage insurance to provide coverage in our home when we experience water damage caused from a leak or overflo from our washer, toilet, lavatory, hot water heater, or refrigerator. If water comes into our house as a result of flooding, this is not covered unless we have flood insurance. The type of water damage that is routinely included in our homeowners policy is the type caused from problems within our home like the ones I mentioned above. Additionally, if a water pipe that is installed within the wall should break or develop a leak, it is covered under our homeowners policy.
There are two type of water damage. There is the kind I have described that occurs within our home and then there is the natural disaster type of damage like flooding. The two types of damage require two types of insurance coverage.
